Me at around 10

As far back as I can recollect. I have been interested in military history. This is probably understandable from the age of 18, when I entered the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst for a career in the British Army. At RMA Sandhurst I was particularly interested in the American Civil War and later, whilst a student at the Army Staff College, I studied more recent 20th Century history, this time focusing on the Korean War.

Much earlier than this, at the age of around 10, I was already leaning towards the science stream at school.  However, I also took a number of other subjects (French, Latin, geography and history, as I recall).  During history lessons I became fascinated by the Wars of the Roses. I vividly recall that I was set some weekend homework on the subject and far exceeded the brief by filling half a notebook with my essay; including a whole page crayon drawing along the lines of the one reproduced here.

My fascination with medieval English history was overtaken by other interests as I grew older and was only re-awoken through, of all things, watching the TV series The White Queen in 2013. The series rekindled my interest and I invested in a number of books on the subject, including several devoted to individual battles. Soon after this, the idea of creating a comprehensive but accessible and engaging website that explained the Wars of the Roses took root but, for one reason or other, lay fallow until the beginning of 2020.
