Reviewer notes

To my kind reviewers

The Wars of the Roses website will, in time, be a comprehensive, fairly complex, media-rich and hopefully engaging site for anyone wanting to learn about a fascinating period of English medieval history.

I am deliberately submitting the site for review at a very early stage in its development so that I can benefit from feedback and make changes before it gets too bogged down with content.  Hopefully, there is sufficient here already for you to be able to form a view.

Before inviting you to comment on the site, I would like to list those things that you won't yet see (and why).

Structure

The site's structure is almost complete, in that you will be able to see its extent and shape.  However, some elements are not yet, or barely,  there:

Outline.  Only the index page started.  The intention is that this will provide a largely text-based overview of the war, adding context for the more specific sections.

Timelines.  A timeline index page has been added.  The more detailed timeline sections in 2D and 3D, built with an app called Tiki Toki Timelines (yes, really), have place-settings but little else.

Arms & Armour.  Again, there is currently little more than a place setting; I have added my first attempt at a 3D interactive model (the flanged mace) just to prove the concept and my ability to create such models.  The section will eventually contain 3D models of all Wars of the Roses weapons and armour, and the characters that carried/wore them.

Design

Most of the initial design is in place.  One major change for the future will be to replace the contour-map battlefield illustrations with reasonably realistic 3D renders.  Again, this will have to wait until I have honed my ability to create such 3D scenes.

Navigation

I hope that you find navigating through the site reasonably intuitive.  However, it may well be that some of the links have not yet been made.  It would be very useful if you could mention any you find in your comments.

Content

Very little content (other than lorum ipsum paragraphs) has yet been included, as I want to firm up on structure and design first.  There should be enough real content to be able to assess the style of writing.

Viewing

The website is really designed to be viewed on a desktop or laptop computer.  It may work reasonable well on a tablet in landscape mode, although I will probably have to do some more responsiveness tweaking to make it sufficiently acceptable.  It's never going to work on a smart phone.

Commenting

It would be helpful if you could use the form on the Contact page to send your comments, although an email to michael@cousinswar.com would also be fine.  Either way, please note my comment on personal attribution on the Comments page.

Finally

Armed with the information above, please click the button below to return to the Comment section or click the icon at the top left of this page to go to the Home page.   I hope there is sufficient meat to get your teeth into.

Once you leave this page you will be in the body of the site.  However, if you want to revisit these notes you can click on the button in the Comments section in the About page..
